Skincare: Should You Change Your Skincare During Winter?

When it starts getting cold outside, the mittens and down jacket come out. But should the contents of your bathroom cabinet change just like your wardrobe? Many experience that their skin becomes much drier when winter arrives, and then you naturally need to change your skincare routine to fulfill its new needs.

But why exactly does our skin get worse during the winter, and what can you do to cure the problem?

Why is it important to adapt your skincare during winter?

It feels a bit unfair that we all have to battle darkness and cold, and on top of that, bad skin during the winter. The problem isn't just that we get less Vitamin D from the sun and that it's cold, but humidity is a huge culprit as well. As humidity drops during the winter months, our skin also becomes drier. That's why it's important to add extra moisture in the winter.

It's not about changing the routine entirely. Some things you should keep all year round:

Sunscreen: Even if the sun doesn't shine as brightly in the winter, its rays can be harmful to the skin. Our Suntouch SPF 50+ protects against UVA-UVB rays while deeply hydrating the skin.

Eye Cream: The skin under the eyes dries out more easily than other skin, so it's extra important to keep it hydrated in winter. Our amazing eye creams from Neutriherbs, Chamos Acaci, and Cicamed help reduce your under-eye concerns.

Face Masks: Face masks give your skin that extra boost it needs. Skinroller has 4 different product lines adapted to your specific skin type – INTENSE, BRILLIANT, RENEWAL, and RADIANT.

Moisturizer: If you don't use a day and night cream, you risk your skin not getting the moisture it needs, which can lead to it overcompensating by producing more oil or feeling lifeless.

Step 1: Cleansing

When it's cold outside, it's all about focusing on moisture. Swap out your water-based cleanser for creamy, milky products that won't dry out your skin. Choose a cleanser that is mild and hydrating.

Step 2: Serum

Since the key to winter skincare is moisture, a hydrating serum is something you absolutely must try. It is applied after you cleanse the skin and provides an extra barrier against the weather.

Step 3: Moisture

Choose a day cream and a night cream that give your face plenty of hydration. If you add lots of moisture and still have dry skin, it's a great idea to also use products that provide oils.
