The sun's impact

Enjoying the sun and saltwater is wonderful, but it is essential to protect your skin. Many forget the importance of a good SPF year-round, but the need increases significantly during the summer. While Vitamin D is good for your well-being, the sun's rays can lead to skin damage and premature aging. We guide you to common sense in the sun.

Why sunscreen is important for your skin

The sun accounts for a full 90% of skin aging. It is the primary reason the skin becomes drier, more wrinkled, and gets an uneven tone. Additionally, there is a direct link between sun exposure and skin cancer, making sunscreen one of the most crucial steps in your skincare routine. While the body needs the sun for Vitamin D, 15 minutes is enough to cover that need.

Understanding the difference between UVA, UVB, and UVC

Harmful UV light is divided into three groups. UVC radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere and does not reach the earth's surface. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, breaking down collagen and elastin, which leads to photoaging and sagging skin. UVB rays reach the top layer of the skin and cause sunburn as well as DNA damage, increasing the risk of skin cancer. A broad-spectrum protection is therefore an absolute requirement.

Choose the right sun protection factor

A sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB radiation is a must. Many products on the market only protect against UVB, so always check that your product specifies protection for both. We recommend a high sun protection factor, such as SPF 50+, for the best possible protection.

Chemical vs. physical sunscreens

Sunscreens are divided into physical and chemical filters. Physical filters (e.g., zinc oxide) reflect the sun's rays like a shield. Chemical filters absorb the radiation and convert it into harmless energy. Chemical sunscreens are often smoother under makeup, while physical ones can leave a white cast. Keep in mind that chemical sunscreens need about 20 minutes to reach full effect.

How much sunscreen is needed for the face

The basic rule to achieve the stated protection is to use two fingers of cream for the face. Do not forget the neck, as it is an area where signs of aging often show early. Be sure to reapply during the day to maintain even protection.
