FAQ

Everything you need to know about your Skinroller – usage, safety, and care

What is a Skinroller and how does it work?

A Skinroller is a handheld tool with hundreds of microneedles in surgical steel. When you roll it over your skin, the needles create microscopic channels that kickstart your skin's natural healing process – collagen and elastin are built up, and your skin renews itself.

The micro-channels also allow serums and other products you apply afterwards to absorb much more effectively than usual.

How quickly will I see results?

It depends on what you are treating. Many people see visible changes after just a couple of weeks, but for scars, stretch marks, and deeper lines, the process takes several months.

The upper layer of your skin renews roughly every 40 days, so expect at least a couple of treatment cycles before you evaluate.

If you use your Skinroller to get products deeper into the skin, you will see the effect immediately: your skin feels moisturized and gets a clear glow the same evening.

How often should I use my Skinroller?

Treat your skin 1–2 times a week – no more. Some recommend more often, but your skin needs time to heal between sessions, and more frequent use does not give better results.

If you have sensitive skin: start with once every two weeks and see how it feels. Always combine with a high-quality serum.

What needle size should I choose?

Choose the size based on where on your body you are treating and what you want to achieve:

  • 0.25 mm – thin and delicate skin, for example around the eyes (not on the eyelids). Also the best choice to help products absorb more deeply.
  • 0.50 mm – face: smaller scars, fine lines, and prevention. Also recommended for hair loss and thinning hair.
  • 1.00 mm – medium to larger scars, recent wrinkles, smaller stretch marks, and cellulite. Provides firmer skin and works on deeper acne scars.
  • 1.50 mm – larger cellulite and deeper stretch marks. Use only on thicker skin like thighs and buttocks, as well as on deep or surgical scars.
Does it hurt to use Skinroller?

With the smaller needle sizes (0.25–0.50 mm), it mostly feels like a light tingle or tiny pinpricks – most people do not find it painful.

At 1.00 mm and above, the treatment is more noticeable, especially on thinner skin. Roll gently and do not press – pressure, not the needles, is what causes discomfort.

Afterwards, it is normal for your skin to feel warm and look rosy for a couple of hours.

Can I use Skinroller for prevention?

Absolutely. Skinroller works great preventatively – both to keep normal or dehydrated skin moisturized and to counteract fine lines before they deepen.

The same applies to scars, stretch marks, cellulite, and hair loss: getting started early almost always yields better results than treating it afterwards.

Can I use my Skinroller in the summer?

Yes. Just avoid the sun for 24 hours after your treatment, and use sunscreen diligently afterwards – at least SPF 30, preferably SPF 50.

Freshly treated skin is extra sensitive to UV radiation, so sunscreen is non-negotiable during this period.

What is the difference between a dermaroller and a Skinroller?

None – they are two names for the same type of product. Skinroller is our name, dermaroller is the general industry term.

Can I use Skinroller when I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We advise against it during the first three months of pregnancy. After that it is fine, but keep in mind that hormonal changes can make your skin extra sensitive.

Observe how your skin reacts. If the reaction feels strong – let the roller rest until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Important: several active ingredients, especially Retinol, should be avoided completely during pregnancy. Read more under Skincare & Ingredients.

What should I do immediately after the treatment?

Sanitize the roller, apply a suitable serum and optionally a cream. Preferably treat in the evening so your skin gets to rest overnight.

The day after, follow your usual routine – you can wear makeup. However, avoid strong acids, exfoliants and other powerful ingredients the first few days.

  • Do not pick at your skin – your fingers carry more bacteria than you think.
  • Avoid working out, chlorinated pools, and saunas for 24 hours.
  • Do not wax the treated skin for a week.
  • Avoid the sun for 24 hours, then use SPF 50.
Is it normal to get redness in your face afterwards?

Yes, and it is even desirable. The redness shows that the microchannels are open and that your skin absorbs the active ingredients better.

It is also common for your skin to feel dry the day after. Be extra generous with hydration the next few days.

How often should I replace my Skinroller?

Replace after about 10–12 uses. This is partly about hygiene, and partly about the needles needing to be sharp to penetrate your skin correctly and safely.

Dull needles scratch your skin instead of creating clean microchannels – this increases the risk of irritation while reducing effectiveness.

Can I replace the needle head instead of the whole roller?

No, that is not possible right now. When it is time to replace it, you buy a new Skinroller PRO. Replaceable heads are something we are looking into for the future.

How do I clean my Skinroller – is soap and water enough?

No, soap and water are not enough to remove bacteria.

Use a cleansing spray with at least 75 % alcohol before and after each use. We recommend Clean Dermaroller Rengöring.

Can multiple people share the same Skinroller?

No, never. A Skinroller is a personal hygiene product just like a toothbrush – the needles come into contact with blood and lymph at a microscopic level.

Sharing a roller carries a risk of transmitting bloodborne infections, and it cannot be cleaned away. Each person must have their own.

Where do I throw away my used Skinroller?

Among combustible waste, meaning household trash. It contains both metal and plastic and therefore does not belong in any of the recycling fractions.

Wrap it in paper first – we do not want anyone to get hurt.

Should I take breaks from my Skinroller?

Yes. After three months of continuous use, we recommend a one-month break so that your skin has time to rest and rebuild itself.

When should I not use a Skinroller?

Avoid it completely if your skin is irritated or infected, or in cases of active rosacea, active acne, psoriasis, tattoos, skin cancer, sunburned skin, raised moles, warts, wounds, actinic keratoses, or skin lesions you are unsure about.

Do not use Skinroller if you take antibiotics or medications that make your skin thin or sensitive, such as Roaccutane or Tetralysal.

Also avoid use in case of:

  • Bleeding disorders or treatment with blood thinners
  • Radiation therapy or laser treatment in the area within the past year
  • Uncontrolled diabetes – blood sugar needs to be stable first
  • Chemotherapy treatment
  • The first three months of pregnancy
  • Recent surgery or facial surgery
  • The first two weeks after botox or fillers
  • Scars younger than six months
Can I use Skinroller if I have botox or fillers?

Yes, but wait at least two weeks after your treatment so that your skin and the product have settled.

If you are unsure, ask the person who performed the treatment. They know your case best.

Can I use Skinroller on my body?

Yes. The skin on the body is thicker than facial skin, so larger needle sizes work best there: 1.00 mm for stretch marks and minor cellulite, 1.50 mm for deeper stretch marks and more prominent cellulite on thighs and buttocks.

Never use body sizes on your face, and do not treat the same area more than once a week.

What is my skin type?

Skin is usually divided into five types: normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive. Here is how to identify yours:

  • If your entire face gets shiny during the day, you likely have oily skin.
  • Shiny only in the T-zone? Then you are combination.
  • If your skin feels tight or slightly red, you are dry or sensitive.
  • If it feels mostly neutral, you have normal skin.

In addition to skin type, there are conditions like surface dryness, acne, and hyperpigmentation—they can come and go regardless of your skin type.

What should a good skincare routine include?

A complete skincare routine includes facial cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, and day and night cream. But do not start with everything at once.

Facial cleanser, hydration, and sunscreen are the foundation. Add serum and targeted products when you know what your skin needs.

How often should I wash my face?

Twice a day: once in the morning and once in the evening.

If you wear makeup or sunscreen, you need to double cleanse in the evening. First use an oil or balm to dissolve impurities, then your regular facial cleanser.

Can I use the same products all year round?

Not always. Your skin usually needs richer products during winter when the air is dry and cold, and lighter textures during summer.

You should use sunscreen all year round, even on cloudy days and indoors, because both daylight and screens affect your skin.

What is the difference between serum and face cream?

Serum is concentrated and contains a higher percentage of active ingredients that reach deeper into the skin. Face cream has a softer formula and protects while locking in moisture on the surface.

They do not replace each other. The serum treats, the cream protects.

What is a toner and do I need to use one?

A toner is used after cleansing to restore the skin's pH balance and prepare the skin. The next product you apply is absorbed more effectively, giving better results for your entire routine.

There are also exfoliating toners – use them more sparingly than a classic hydrating toner.

What is exfoliation and how often should I do it?

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and promotes cell renewal, giving smoother and more radiant skin.

How often depends on your skin type and the method you use – start once a week and increase only if your skin feels good. Over-exfoliation leads to fragile, irritated skin.

Do I need an eye cream?

Yes. The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face, and cannot always tolerate the same products.

An eye cream is adapted for the area and prevents fine lines without causing irritation.

What does Vitamin C do for the skin?

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that protects the skin against free radicals and environmental stressors. It provides radiance, evens out skin tone and reduces pigmentation spots.

Apply in the morning after cleansing and toner, before day cream and SPF – this gives you the best protection during the day.

I get red from Vitamin C – am I allergic?

Not necessarily. High concentrations can cause redness. This may mean the formula is too potent for your skin, or your skin is not yet used to it.

Try a lower concentration or a milder form. If the reaction persists, stop use and consult a skin therapist.

What is Hyaluronic Acid and who is it for?

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that binds moisture in the skin – up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. The result is plumper skin and less prominent fine lines.

All skin types can use it, but dry, sensitive, and mature skin often notices the biggest difference. It virtually never clashes with other ingredients.

Which products should I avoid when I am pregnant?

Avoid Retinol and other Vitamin A derivatives completely during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The same applies to high concentrations of Salicylic Acid.

Safe alternatives that provide a similar effect: Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Vitamin C, peptides, and Bakuchiol.

Always consult a midwife or doctor if you are unsure – this is general guidance, not medical advice.

Can I combine different active ingredients?

Yes, but not all at once. Rules of thumb that work:

  • Vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night.
  • Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid go with basically everything.
  • Do not use strong acids the same evening as retinol until your skin is well adjusted.
  • Introduce one new active ingredient at a time, with a couple of weeks in between.
Which sunscreen should I use on my face?

We recommend SPF 50 with broad-spectrum protection, meaning protection against both UVA and UVB rays. A plus is if it also protects against IR and HEV.

Face products are milder and less oily than body sunscreens, so choose one made for the face.

Which cream is best for dry skin?

Look for Hyaluronic Acid, ceramides, and glycerin — they provide hydration and strengthen the skin barrier so that moisture stays locked in.

If your skin is both dry and tight, you can apply an oil, such as squalane, as a final step to lock in hydration.

Which product helps best against blemishes?

Salicylic Acid (BHA) is oil-soluble and deeply cleanses pores, making it effective against blemishes and blackheads. Niacinamide and azelaic acid are great complements against redness and marks after breakouts.

How do I get rid of blackheads on my nose?

Blackheads are oxidized sebum in the pores – you cannot scrub them away, and squeezing enlarges pores over time.

What works is regular BHA exfoliation, a clay mask once a week, and never skipping your evening cleanse.

We have a complete guide: <a href="/blogs/hudguiden/guide-pormaskar-pa-nasan">Blackheads on the nose – how to get rid of them</a>.

How do I get rid of bags under my eyes?

Bags can be caused by fluid retention, sleep, genetics, or loss of skin firmness – the cause determines what helps.

Eye cream with caffeine helps against puffiness, while peptides and retinol help with firmness. A cold compress in the morning provides a quick but temporary effect.

What helps against cellulite?

Cellulite is completely normal and sits in the skin's connective tissue. You can rarely get rid of it completely, but you can make it less visible.

The combination that gives the best results: microneedling with a larger needle size, body products with active ingredients, massage, and regular movement.

How do I get thicker beard growth?

Beard growth is largely controlled by genes and hormones, but you can give your hair follicles better conditions.

Microneedling with a dermaroller for beards combined with a beard serum is the method where our customers see the best results. Expect at least three months before you evaluate.

How do I avoid red bumps after shaving?

Red bumps usually come from dull blades, too much pressure, or shaving against the grain.

Shave with the grain on clean, softened skin, change blades often, and finish with something soothing without alcohol.

Can diet affect my skin?

Yes, there is a connection. A diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 – berries, vegetables, salmon, walnuts – gives your skin better conditions to repair itself.

High sugar intake can instead contribute to glycation, a process where sugar molecules bind to collagen and make it stiffer, which affects your skin's elasticity over time.

One thing that is often forgotten: touching your face after eating chips or candy transfers oil and bacteria to your skin – that is a more common cause of breakouts than the diet itself.

Can I make my own skincare at home?

We advise against it. This is not about protecting sales, but about four real risks:

  • Hygiene – without the right conditions, bacteria can grow in the product and cause infections.
  • Ingredient quality – it is difficult to source raw materials with known purity.
  • Dosering och formulering – wrong concentration can irritate your skin, and the wrong composition makes the product ineffective.
  • No safety testing – professional products undergo tests that a home kitchen cannot replace.
What payment methods can I use?

You can pay with:

  • Swish – the fastest option, you approve directly in the app.
  • Qliro – invoice or partial payment.
  • Card via Shopify Payments – Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay.

All payments are processed through an encrypted connection. We never store your card details.

Has my order gone through?

You receive an order confirmation by email as soon as your payment is approved. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder – it sometimes ends up there.

If you cannot find it at all, your order may have been cancelled before the payment was completed. Email us at <a href="mailto:kundtjanst@skinroller.se">kundtjanst@skinroller.se</a> and we will look into it.

I ordered the wrong item – can I change or cancel my order?

Get in touch as quickly as you can. We pack orders continuously, so we can make changes as long as the package has not left the warehouse.

Email <a href="mailto:kundtjanst@skinroller.se">kundtjanst@skinroller.se</a> with your order number and what you want to change. If the package has already been shipped, you can use your right of withdrawal once it arrives.

Can I add a product to my order?

We cannot add items to an order that has already been placed – the system links the payment to those exact products.

Place a new order instead. If you ordered on the same day, we can often pack both orders in the same package, just let us know.

How do I change my delivery address after placing the order?

Reply to your order confirmation or email <a href="mailto:kundtjanst@skinroller.se">kundtjanst@skinroller.se</a> with your order number and the new address.

We can change it as long as the package has not been shipped. If it is already on its way, you can usually redirect the delivery directly in the carrier's app or tracking link.

Can I use multiple discount codes at the same time?

No, one discount code per order. The checkout only allows one code at a time, and codes cannot be combined with each other.

Promotional prices in the store always apply, though – you do not need a code for them.

I forgot to use my discount code – can you add it afterwards?

Email us at <a href="mailto:kundtjanst@skinroller.se">kundtjanst@skinroller.se</a> with your order number and the code. If the order has not been shipped, we can usually help you.

We cannot refund the discount on orders that have already been delivered – in that case, you can use the code next time instead, if it is still valid.

Why is the discount code I found not working?

Most common reasons:

  • The code has expired. Many codes are only valid for a limited time.
  • The order value does not reach the minimum requirement for the code.
  • The code only applies to specific products or brands.
  • The code is personal and linked to another email address.
  • The product is already discounted. Promotional items are usually excluded.

Codes from coupon sites are rarely current. Subscribe to our newsletter if you want codes that work.

I have received my items but no invoice. Where is it?

If you paid with Qliro, the invoice is sent separately from Qliro, not from us. It arrives by email or in the Qliro app.

If you paid by card or Swish, the amount is already charged and your order confirmation serves as your receipt.

What applies to my gift card?

Redeem the gift card at checkout by entering the code in the discount code box. The amount is deducted from the order total.

If the gift card does not cover the entire order, you pay the rest with your preferred payment method. Any remaining balance stays on the card for your next purchase.

Can I order a product that is sold out?

Sold out products cannot be added to the cart. Click "Notify Me" on the product page instead, and we will email you as soon as the item is back in stock.

We only send an email about that specific product, no newsletter.

Can I shop as a business?

Yes. Enter your company name in the address field at checkout and it will be included on the invoice.

Are you a retailer or want to order larger volumes? Email <a href="mailto:kundtjanst@skinroller.se">kundtjanst@skinroller.se</a> and we will get back to you with terms.
