How to use it

Apply a few drops to cleansed and dry skin, in the evening. Avoid the eye area. Always use sun protection during the day, as BHA can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. Start with every other day and increase gradually as the skin gets used to it.

What does it do for my skin?

Salicylic acid is fat-soluble, and that is the whole point. Unlike water-soluble acids, it follows the sebum down into the pore and dissolves the plug of dead skin and sebum from the inside — where it actually sits.

How does it differ from glycolic acid?

Glycolic acid is water-soluble and works on the skin's surface: evens out texture and brightens. Salicylic acid goes down into the pore. If you have large pores, blackheads, and blemishes, BHA is right; if it is uneven tone and texture, AHA is right.

When will I see results?

The pores feel cleaner within a couple of weeks. Expect that the skin can get worse before it gets better — plugs that loosen are seen on the way up. Give it six weeks before you judge.

Does it suit my skin?

Best for oily and combination skin that is prone to blemishes. Dry or sensitive skin should start every other day. Use sun protection — acids make the skin more sensitive to the sun. Avoid during pregnancy without asking a midwife.
