When is the best time to do a facial?
We recommend performing the treatment in the evening or on a day off so the skin can rest after the treatment. A tip is to do your facial immediately after taking a shower – this is when it is most effective to cleanse the face. This is because the warm water helps to reduce sebum and open up the pores, allowing for a deeper cleanse.
Step 1: Cleansing
Cleansing is crucial for a successful facial at home. Preferably double cleanse to get the skin properly clean. This is especially important when you get home from work, school, etc., or if you have worn makeup. If you cleanse your face in the shower, it's important to do it after shampoo and conditioner.
An advantage of cleansing your face in the shower is that the heat from the steam dilates the pores, allowing you to deeply cleanse the skin and making subsequent products more effective.
Tips for a salon feel at home:
- Create a lather and massage in with circular motions.
- Work from the outside of the face inwards.
- Extend the motions down onto the neck and décolletage.
- The heat from the shower helps open the pores and makes cleansing more effective.

Step 2: Peeling
After cleansing the skin, it's time to apply an exfoliant that dissolves dead skin cells. Apply your peeling and let it work.
Which peeling should I choose?
It can be an exfoliant with enzymes, exfoliating acid, or grains. Alternatively, a clay mask, hydrating mask, or detoxifying charcoal mask. The possibilities are endless.
Follow the instructions for the time stated on the product, or a shorter time if your skin is sensitive. Less is more!

Step 3: Microneedling at home (optional)

Step 4: Face Mask
Apply a hydrating face mask, preferably a concentrated sheet mask or a "regular" soothing, cooling mask. Apply the mask and let it sit for the time stated on the product.
While the mask is working, skin therapists usually give the customer a relaxing massage. My tip is therefore to take the opportunity to moisturize your body with body lotion and then follow up with a body oil on top to lock in the moisture from the body lotion.
This keeps your body lotion in place and hydrates for a longer time.
It's important that this mask does not contain any exfoliating agents since you've already peeled the skin. The risk otherwise is that you over-exfoliate the skin.
What is over-exfoliated skin?
If you over-exfoliate the skin, it can disrupt the skin's natural barrier and balance. This can then manifest by, for example, giving you reactive skin with increased sensitivity such as redness, itching, rashes, or acne breakouts.
Finishing the mask step
- Sheet mask? Massage any excess serum into the face, neck, and décolletage.
- Creamy mask? Wash off with lukewarm water – use soft, sweeping motions in the direction of the lymph.
