Step-by-Step: How to Use Your Dermaroller

A question we frequently receive is: "How often should I use my Dermaroller, primarily known as Skinroller, Skin Roller, or skin roller?" The interval at which you should use your Dermaroller is highly individual and something you should consult or test your way through with caution. In this post, we cover the basics of how often you should use your Dermaroller depending on the area of use.

What is a Dermaroller?

A Dermaroller is a handheld beauty tool. Dermarollers come with different numbers of needles and designs. There are true Dermarollers with individual needles, but also cheaper variations that slice through the skin. A Dermaroller is used to create tiny microscopic injuries to the skin that trigger the skin's natural healing process. When the skin needs to repair itself, natural growth factors are released, and Collagen and elastin production are promoted.

The instructions below are developed for use with Skinroller PRO - which is our best-selling Dermaroller in Sweden.

How Often Should I Use a Dermaroller?

Understanding the right frequency for using your Dermaroller is crucial to achieving optimal results without overloading the skin. According to leading microneedling research, it is essential to give the skin adequate recovery time between treatments to stimulate Collagen Production and avoid unnecessary inflammation.

Dermaroller for the Scalp
Do you suffer from telogen Hair Loss, bald patches, or thinning hair? A Dermaroller helps the scalp to stimulate blood circulation and wake up dormant hair follicles.

- Dermaroller 0.25 mm daily to improve the absorption of Serums and boost blood circulation.
- Dermaroller 0.5 mm once a week for a deeper treatment that promotes hair follicle activation.

Dermaroller for Scars
To remove acne scars, pitted scars, or scars after injuries.

- Dermaroller 0.5 mm (superficial scars): Use max 1-2 times per month
- Dermaroller 1.0 mm (deeper scars): Use max 1 time per month

Dermaroller for Enhanced Radiance
To boost the skin's natural glow and create a more even Skin Tone:
- Dermaroller 0.25 mm: Use daily

We at Skinroller currently recommend using your Dermaroller at most 1-2 times a week (for lengths over 0.5 mm). If you are a beginner with microneedling, we recommend starting with Skinroller PRO 0.25 mm to gradually acclimatize your skin.

Can I speed up the results by rolling more often?

If you use your Dermaroller or attend salon treatments too often, you will not achieve the desired results such as skin rejuvenation, Collagen stimulation, and skin revitalization. There is no reason to overwork the skin; it will not speed up the process or give you results sooner. The most important thing is to trust the treatment plan and be patient, as the skin renewal process can continue for several weeks up to months after every single treatment.

Signs of Overworked Skin

A damaged Skin Barrier affects the skin's ability to protect itself and can manifest in multiple ways. It is very common to overwork the skin with strong acids and active ingredients. Here are some common signs:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Dry and tight feeling
  • Excessive Redness
  • Soreness or itching
  • Flaking
  • Loss of Radiance
  • Can cause flare-ups
