When Should You Do a Facial Treatment?
We recommend performing the treatment in the evening or on a day off so that your skin can rest afterwards. A tip is to do your facial treatment right after taking a shower - that's when cleansing your face is most effective. The warm water helps to reduce sebum and open up the pores for a deep cleanse.
Step-by-Step Guide
Cleansing
Cleansing is the alpha and omega of a successful at-home facial. It's a good idea to cleanse twice to get it thoroughly clean, especially if you've been wearing makeup. If you are showering, do it after using shampoo and conditioner. The heat from the steam dilates the pores and boosts the effect of subsequent products.
Tips for a salon feel at home:
- Create a lather and massage in using circular motions.
- Work from the outside of the face inwards.
- Extend the movements down to your neck and décolletage.
- Lymphatic massage during cleansing promotes the skin's circulation and removes toxins.
Exfoliation
After cleansing, it's time to apply an exfoliant that dissolves dead skin cells. Apply your peel and let it sit. You can choose between an enzyme peel, an exfoliating acid, or grains. Follow the instructions on the product and be careful if your skin is sensitive – less is more! If you opt for an exfoliating clay mask, you can skip the next step and go straight to finishing products.
At-home Microneedling with Skinroller
If you chose an enzyme peel, you can use the Skinroller PRO to increase the skin's absorption capacity by up to 300%.
- Opens tiny microscopic channels in the skin.
- Increases the efficacy of serums and hydrating products.
- Also known as a dermaroller or skin roller.
Face Mask
Apply a hydrating Face Mask, preferably a concentrated Sheet Mask or a soothing, cooling mask. Let it work according to the instructions. Take the opportunity to moisturize your body with body lotion followed by a Body Oil to lock in the moisture. Important: Do not use exfoliating ingredients in this step as the skin is already peeled, to avoid over-exfoliation.
Over-exfoliated Skin
If you exfoliate too much, you can disrupt the skin's natural barrier. This can manifest as reactive skin with increased sensitivity, redness, itching, or breakouts.
Finishing the Mask Step
- Sheet Mask: Massage excess serum into the face, neck, and décolletage.
- Creamy Mask: Wash off with lukewarm water using soft, sweeping motions in the direction of the lymph nodes.
Finishing Products
Basic rule: Finish with the products that should stay on the skin the longest. Follow the order: Serum, Eye Cream, Day or Night Cream, and possibly a Face Oil to lock everything in. Don't forget Sunscreen during the daytime, as it is one of the most effective anti-aging products.
Massage Technique for Maximum Effect
Apply products and work your way gently down towards the neck and décolletage. Use sweeping, downward motions to stimulate lymphatic circulation. Massage each area, like the jawline and forehead, with light outward motions. A moment of massage promotes lymphatic circulation, reduces swelling, and defines the facial contours.
Applying Eye Cream
Use a small amount and dab gently with your ring finger, which is the most delicate finger. Avoid placing the cream too close to the eye; the skin's heat will move the product to the right area.
